Somebody VS Nobody

Many of us know the problems around us. We know exactly what needs to be done in most cases. We even discuss these challenges at dinner, in the corridors, at office tables and sometimes even in the boardroom.

And after complaining, we conclude: “Somebody needs to step up and get this done”.

But when ‘somebody’ needs to do something, nobody gets to do it.

Sometimes people are assigned to do certain tasks, but still need “somebody” to hold them accountable, hover over their shoulder and keep reminding and pushing them to get the job done.

This is not right.

Every game needs a great coach to build a winning team. But a coach is not a permanent momentum supplier or accountability partner.

A coach should teach and step back.

A coach can inspire, motivate and analyse.

But the player has to play the game.

The player has to want to win.

The player has to listen and follow the coach’s instructions.

Be the somebody who gets the job done.

Stop blaming everybody, looking for somebody else to get the job done every time you’re faced with setbacks and challenges.

In your organisation, in meetings, or in involvement, have a mindset that seeks to give practical and actionable solutions to problems with simple, measurable steps.

Be an impact player.

You’re not just a team player who does what they are told.

Step up.

Take steps beyond just what you’re told to do, but do what needs to be done.

How will you be stepping up today?

Rooting for you always!
