The blessing of Stitches and a golden jacket.

My sonny dearest has a golden winter jacket. It has faithfully accompanied him through the years, through rough tumbles, strong winds, rainy days, sticky treats and juicy bits. It’s getting a little snug, but sonny won’t let it go.

As I stepped out to ‘observe’ the washing line, which simply means wanting to see what was going on with the clothes but not willing to engage/ bring them in, I noticed the jacket hanging proudly on the line, with holes in the armpits.

So, I took it in, placed it on my knee and began stitching.

I wish I could say I reminisced about all the fun we’d had, the beautiful memories, or the life adventures we’d shared with this jacket, but I didn’t.
I simply sewed quietly, stitch by stitch. Sometimes I had to do a backward stitch, other times I had to do a double stitch in the same place. I noticed that although there were multiple spots that needed stitching, it did not reduce the jacket’s value or worth.

God looks at us, holes and all, seeking to build us, lift us and present us to himself.  Sometimes we are aware of our ‘perfection’, our beauty, our strengths and our talents. We shine like gold, just like my son’s golden jacket. Sometimes, in our arrogance, we are aware of the ‘gold’ but oblivious to the ‘holes’ in our lives.

Some people only focus on the holes and forget their purpose, usefulness, and the blessings they bring to those around them.
Stitches are a bridge between the broken and the repaired or renewed, the shiny and the holes.

Stitches exist to remind us that mistakes and flaws are not the end; you can heal/ stitch joy, positivity and great memories into your life.

We can grow, improve, and stitch our lives using the simplest, smallest things: threads of attention to the right people, attention to your spirit, and a nurturing, supportive environment for your soul through positive thinking, positive media, and positive people.

It’s winter in my part of the world, and my son is proudly wearing his jacket once again, with no signs of holes or stitches.

No matter what we may have lost or been through, remember daily that Good things exist in this world, and beautiful times lie ahead.

Take a look at the holes/ gaps in your life and remember there is a potter, a master tailor who can ‘stitch’ you back, better and stronger than you were before.

What holes/ areas will you be surrendering to the master tailor today?

I’d love to hear all about it in the comments.

Rooting for you always!
