Are You Charging Your Battery?

Hubby dearest bought me a power bank recently. At first, it felt quite bothersome to carry around,
so I would leave it lying around and only use it when there was a power cut for extended periods of
time.

After a while, I observed that the power bank needed charging. So, I had to pay attention not just to
my device, but also to the power bank.

Having made sure that the power bank has sufficient power, I became slightly careless with charging my cell phone, knowing that I always have a backup power supply, should anything go wrong.

It became a habit- and probably still is- that my device is rarely 100 per cent charged. Its always 44%, 26%, the occasional yet sometimes frequent 12%, which quickly becomes 2 per cent in minutes!

I cannot recall how many online meetings I have had with my battery at 20%, connected to the
power bank, but still dwindling because it was charging and in use at the same time.
I promise to change and do better.

My charger woes aside, many of us treat our health, our faith, our well -being, rest, and relationships just like I treat my devices.

Perhaps you have a great support system, a powerful supplement, a great exercise routine, a
prayerful relative, or you may be the spiritual warrior, and these pillars make you feel relaxed in
partial carelessness and potential self-destruction.
It does not seem like a crisis, and right now you can function and get by, but deep within you know that you are functioning on minimal capacity, maybe even on minus, but powering on using your ‘power bank’.

Remember Samson? The biblical hero who inspired the legend of Hercules was because of his super
strength. He ‘banked’ on his strength and forgot to develop discernment and discipline.
His ‘phone’ was never fully charged, and one day his ‘battery’ died, and there was no strength left
when he needed it the most.

Maybe like Samson, we tell ourselves, ‘I will push through’ just like before, ‘I am strong enough’, or ‘I can handle it’.

Here is the hard truth: Just because you escaped, survived, or ‘powered’ through certain draining or challenging times in the past and came out standing does not mean you have the strength to do so again.

What are the activities that recharge you? What skills are not urgent for today, but necessary for
tomorrow are you building to stay relevant?

Perhaps you are banking on someone, a certain source of income, a system that seems reliable, but
cannot hold up for the long term due to your weaknesses or refusal to grow and evolve.
Even if the person you are banking on is you, you are the worst danger to yourself if you do not take time to rest, reflect, review your thought patterns, your systems and your habits.

Take out time to charge your batteries, whatever they may be: Spiritual, emotional, marriage,
finance, relationships.

You may not need to do too much, it may just be a question of planning, perspective or acting with
intention.

Did I mention that your batteries, in whatever form, cannot be charged without sleep?

Dear Adult, sleep is not a luxury or a reward; it is a necessity.

Will you be charging your batteries today?
Rooting for you always… Cheers to a more rested and optimised version of yourself.
