‘Originality’ is a coinage from the word ‘original’, which means the ‘earliest form of something,’ from which copies can be made.
Another definition is ‘created personally by a particular artist, writer, musician, etc., not a copy.’
Indeed, you are the writer of your life’s story, a painter or artist of your destiny’s canvas.
While we may not be able to choose the race, gender, family, country we are born into or the events and situations that happen in our lives, we still have a choice on who we choose to become, and where and how we will end.
Our dreams, hopes, desires, reactions, opinions and choices are ours; totally and completely ours, and no one can take that right away unless we let them.
We can choose to be victims or victors of our circumstances by shaping our lives with one positive thought after a time.
Like a river, we must learn the delicate art of ‘twisting’ and ‘turning’ around the rocks, obstacles and mountains of life. We must be flexible, resilient, and willing to ‘flow’ in the direction of our dreams, and we must be unwilling to give up at all costs.
It’s okay to be inspired by others, perhaps even to model your life after someone else, but you must find your voice and put your ‘stamp’—something that is uniquely you—on it—something that only you can do.
The days of being a ‘statistic’, one of the masses, just a regular ‘Joe’ are over. There is something unique, something special inside you, and while you still have breath, you must live it and express it to the full.
So now, you’ve decided to be yourself in its purest and highest form, where do you start?
Start by sitting down, call it a ‘board meeting’ with you, your conscious self, and your future self.
Get a pen, or a writing device of sorts and ask yourself:
-Who am I? (name, age, address, roots, origin, faith, personality)
– What am I good at? (skills, personality traits, experiences, even compliments from others that turned out to be true)
-Who do I want to become? (Dreams, goals, desires)
You are ready to begin after you have written these down in detail and with brutal honesty. If you can’t find the answers to these questions, ask someone you trust to assist you, then go through it again and again.
